Trauma Therapy
Trauma therapy for women who are ready to stop carrying the weight of the past and start living fully in the present.
You Know Something Needs To Change
Maybe you’re constantly on edge, scanning for danger even when you’re safe. Maybe certain sounds, smells, or situations send you spiraling back to moments you’d rather forget. Maybe you feel numb, disconnected, like you’re watching your life from the outside.
You might be dealing with:
Flashbacks of past memories that won’t leave you alone
Hypervigilance and always feeling alert
Difficulty trusting others or feeling safe in relationships
Emotional numbness or feeling disconnected from yourself
Shame, guilt, or believing what happened was somehow your fault
Physical symptoms like panic attacks, sleep problems, or chronic tension
Here’s what I want you to know: You aren’t broken. Your body is doing exactly what it learned to do to keep you safe.
Those survival strategies made sense then. But they’re not serving you now.
What is Trauma?
Understanding How it Lives in Your Body
Trauma isn’t just about what happened to you, it’s about when your nervous system was overwhelmed and couldn’t fully process and move on from the experience.
Whether you survived domestic violence, sexual assault, childhood abuse, a car accident, or repeated experiences that taught you the world wasn’t safe. Trauma lives in your body, not just your mind. That’s why you know, logically, you’re safe now, but your body still reacts as if the danger is happening right now. Additionally, it’s not always a really scary event that happened that causes trauma. Sometimes it’s the chronic stress that comes with financial instability or hearing negative messages from loved ones.
You might notice your heart racing when you’re reminded of a past experience or tightness in your chest or stomach. It’s possible you feel numb or heightened emotions. Maybe you isolate from others to protect yourself or feel like you’re always waiting for something bad to happen.
These aren’t signs of weakness. This is your brilliant nervous system trying to protect you. However, your body needs to learn to feel safe and relaxed again. Learn more about signs you may be experiencing trauma.

A Holistic Approach to Trauma Therapy in Oak Point
Integrative Approach
Because we don’t all heal in the same way, it’s necessary to have various methods of processing. You are unique, so you should have a unique approach. We will work together to weave together methods that will accomplish your goals.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing): Helps your brain reprocess traumatic memories so they lose their emotional charge. You’ll remember what happened, but it won’t hijack your nervous system anymore. You will also take on new perspectives and maybe see what happened in a different light. Learn more about EMDR Therapy.
Somatic Techniques: Because trauma lives in the body, we’ll work with body sensations, grounding exercises, and breathwork to help you feel safe in your own skin again.
Expressive Arts Therapy: When words aren’t enough, creativity can help you process what you’re carrying. Through art, movement, or other creative modalities, we’ll access healing that goes beyond talk therapy. Explore Expressive Arts Therapy.
Parts Work & Internal Family Systems: We’ll explore the different parts of yourself—the protector, the critic, the wounded child—and help them work together instead of against you.
Why Holistic Trauma Therapy Works
What to Expect in Trauma Therapy for Women
1. First, We Build Safety
We’ll start by creating tools and resources to help you feel grounded and in control. We will focus on your current difficulties and create a support system that will help you feel safe enough to process your experiences.
2. We Process at Your Pace
Some weeks we might dive deep into memory work. Other weeks, we might focus on nervous system regulation or building coping skills. You’re in the driver’s seat. You get to choose when we slow down or speed up.
3. You’ll Learn to Trust Yourself Again
Through our work together, you’ll develop a new relationship with your body, your emotions, and your inner voice.
Your First Trauma Therapy Session: In your first session, we’ll discuss what brings you to therapy, your goals, current stressors or triggers, and helpful coping strategies. I won’t ask you to dive into traumatic memories right away. Instead, we’ll focus on building safety and creating a foundation for healing.

FAQ’s
Will I have to talk about every detail that happened?
No. You’re in control of what you share. Some trauma therapy approaches (like EMDR) don’t even require you to talk about all the details out loud.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Everyone’s timeline is different. Some people feel relief in a few months; others need longer. We’ll work at your pace and check in regularly about your progress.
What if I'm not ready to face it yet?
That’s okay. We can start with building healthy coping skills, nervous system regulation, and creating safety. You don’t have to dive into trauma work until you’re ready.
How much does trauma therapy cost?
My private pay rate is $150 for a 55-minute session. If you’re using insurance, it will depend on your copay rate.
Do you take insurance?
Yes, I take Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, Aetna, Cigna, Carelon Behavioral Health, and Quest Behavioral Health
Can trauma therapy be done online?
Yes! I offer virtual trauma therapy throughout Texas. For online sessions, you’ll need a safe, quiet space and reliable internet. I also require an emergency contact on file for your safety.
Please note: For your safety, I cannot provide online trauma therapy if you’re currently experiencing suicidal ideation or engaging in self-harm. I’m happy to provide referrals to appropriate care.
What are the signs I need trauma therapy?
Common signs include intrusive memories or flashbacks, avoiding reminders of what happened, persistent negative thoughts or numbness, feeling constantly on edge, difficulty sleeping, panic attacks, chronic tension, and trouble trusting others. If these symptoms are interfering with your daily life or relationships, trauma therapy can help.
Does trauma therapy really work?
Yes, trauma therapy, especially evidence-based approaches like EMDR, has been proven effective. But it works when you’re ready for it. Your readiness to process what you’ve been carrying is key. Additionally, healing isn’t linear. Some weeks you’ll feel lighter; other weeks might feel harder as you process what you’ve been carrying. When you’re ready to engage, trauma therapy can help you feel safe again, reduce symptoms, and reclaim your life.
